This has been a long time coming, but I’ve finally decided to start a blog devoted entirely to the Chiefs. My reasons for this are threefold:
1) I am, and always have been, a massive Chiefs fan. I have an almost insatiable hunger for Chiefs information and spend time every day daydreaming about problems with the team, how they can get better, who they should draft, who they should cut, etc. They are one of my biggest passions in life and also the subject that I am definitely most qualified to write about(other than Lord of the Rings I guess).
2) Having just moved to New York city, my opportunities for Chiefs talk are virtually nonexistent. I have been forced to either bother friends with repeated phone calls or force people who aren’t interested into conversations they don’t enjoy. I need a place to analyze, discuss, and especially rant about the Chiefs. My past attempts to include detailed Chiefs analysis on my regular blog inevitably bored people who aren’t big fans. During football(or draft) season especially I would allow my Chiefs posts to dominate the blog, and this drove viewers away. Quite simply, I need an outlet.
3) I’ve been a fan of Rob Neyer and Rany Jayerzeli’s site RobandRanyontheRoyals for a couple years now. They provide a place hardcore Royals fans can go for uncensored information and educated opinions from a perspective independent of the organization. The Chiefs, as far as I know, have no comparable site. And, in my opinion, they need one even more than the Royals do. The Chiefs website is a joke, seriously the worst team webpage I’ve ever seen. If you like to read Bob Gretz “columns” in which he shamelessly parrots Carl Peterson, interviews where Herm Edwards answers softball questions about how great things are going, or lame features on how awesome the Chiefs are in the community, then by all means stick to their official webpage. But the fact is you can’t get any legitimate information there. In my time as a Chiefs fan the one area in which the front office has excelled is defending their own actions. They specialize in damage control. My goal is to provide a site where people can go to get Chiefs analysis independent of front office manipulation. I realize virtually no one will be reading this initially, but my hope is that eventually my site will have the same broad readership of passionate fans that Rob and Rany have been able to build up over the years.
A couple disclaimers:
Disclaimer A) When I make predictions about players I am often very, very wrong. I once claimed Larry Atkins was going to blow Greg Wesley out of the water in the competition for the strong safety spot. I thought Shawn Barber was a great hire. I’ve been waiting for Samie Parker to “break out” for the past 3 years and I was sure Tank Tyler was going to be a force this season. When I was a kid I even called in to Metro Sports talk with Duke Frye to say I thought Trezelle Jenkins was gonna be just fine. What I’m getting at is that I don’t claim to be some sort of Chiefs guru who has all the answers. What I do claim to be is a big fan who calls it like I see it.
Disclaimer B) Things have gotten personal between me and Herm Edwards. I despise the man. I realize that to maintain any credibility I’m going to have to divorce myself from emotions and look at things objectively, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to do that in Herm’s case. I have no respect for him, and I don’t believe he has earned any. In his two years here he has proven himself to be an immature, incompetent clown who is more interested in a good sound bite than in relaying any actual information. He doesn’t hesitate to throw his players under the bus, he tells blatant lies and he acts like anyone who disagrees with his bizarre, ineffective gameplanning is an idiot. The only way I see the Chiefs returning to their former glory is by getting rid of Herm as quickly as possible. So that’s where I’m coming from. I will try to give him credit if any credit is due, but my current opinion of him is extremely low and I may not be able to keep that from showing in my posts. In fact, I don’t intend to.
Having said all that, I think I’m ready to blog. Let’s get it started.

Begin the begin: good REM song…
I’m actually kind of relieved that we’re not going out and pursuing anyone this year because in the end, we’d just end up with an overpriced pile of garbage like Nap Harris. I’ll be interested to see who Ty Law ends up with.
I am kinda excited for this blog. By the way there is a good unofficial Chiefs blog that a guy from Rockhurst runs. http://www.arrowheadpride.com/ It is good, you should check it out.
I’m extremely excited about this…I too am obsessed with Chiefs info, Big Hatt, so this is a pleasant surprise. I have a question to pose…if that’s the way we’re doing this…if not that’s fine too. It’s an obvious one, too. Who do we draft with the #5 pick….Jake Long (if avail), Matt Ryan (if avail- I would hate this pick myself, but it would make Carl and Herm look terrible for repeatedly saying they were sticking with Brodie), or Glenn Dorsey (more and more say he may be avail at #5)….Once again, thanks for the outlet and I look forward to reading this instead of working.
Too rough on Herm. He’ll be judged by his wins and losses, the same as any other coach. Most of the rest of what a coach says or does is superfluous anyway.
I would say Long is the pick, unless they get very creative and trade down to get a couple first round picks in a draft that is heavy on offensive tackles.
